COVID19 Relief Hospitals

The Need

Several hospitals in the North and East were in urgent need of medical equipment to provide life-saving support to COVID19 patients affected by the third outbreak in Sri Lanka.

Patients in the high dependency units (HDUs) and intensive care units (ICUs) were in need of CPAP machines and high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy devices, estimated at a cost of $8,000 CAD each.

The Solution

Thanks to donations totaling over $24,000 from several individuals and from the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of BC, we were able to support three different hospitals in the North and East by procuring CPAP machines and high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy devices:

  • Vavuniya District General Hospital, Vavuniya District

  • Mullativu District General Hospital, Mullaitivu District

  • Muthur Base Hospital, Trincomalee District

IMHO Canada worked in collaboration with IMHO USA, Australian Medical Aid Foundation (AMAF) and MIOT (Medical Institute of Tamils UK) and other diaspora contacts to ensure we were supporting distinct requests from each hospital, and to prevent overlap of funding.

The life saving oxygen devices will be used in intensive care units to save lives during the COVID19 pandemic and also other critical medical situations. This project was completed in 2021.
