IMHO Canada is deeply committed to improving and developing primary health care throughout regions where such basic care is lacking. Support for local hospitals and clinics in providing basic, essential medicines to poor patients who lack the financial means of paying for such medicines is crucial. Additionally, support for local doctors, nurses, and health workers through provisions of incentive allowances and other general support enables these persons to work in very remote and disadvantaged communities. In Ethiopia, IMHO Canada coordinated a shipment of medicines worth several thousand dollars to benefit poor patients at the Gondar University Hospital in Gondar, Amhara, Ethiopia. This shipment of medicines to this highly under-stocked hospital, which serves a catchment area of several million people, contains important antibiotics, antimalarials, anti-hypertensives, and diabetic medications. |
