IMHO Canada Youth: Essay Competition


Attention Canadian Youths!
Are you a high-school, university, or college student in Canada
and are interested in expressing your thoughts about health?

This is your opportunity to display your writing skills for a good cause
and win a trip to California!

Write an essay about this year’s health topic in Tamil, English or French
for a chance to win the following prizes:

    1st Prize: Trip to San Jose, California and
                  a chance to be a presenter at
                 the annual IMHO conference
2nd Prize: $500 Education Grant
3rd Prize: $250 Education Grant

Eligibility:

Category A)
High-school student at a Canadian secondary school currently in grade 11 or 12

Category B)
University or college student currently enrolled in a Canadian undergraduate program

There will be a set of prizes for each category!

Essay Question:

According to World Health Organization's definition of health, "Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Based on this definition, what in your view is the greatest health problem affecting the Tamil-speaking community in Canada? What role, if any, can youth play in your proposed solution(s) to the problem?

Your essay can include ideas from personal experience and/or evidence from literature. If you are going to use another author’s ideas, you must attach a list of references along with your essay.

Format:

-    Typed on Microsoft Word document file
-    Language: English, Tamil, or French
-    Font size: 12 point
-    Font: Times New Roman
-    1” margins
-    Double-spaced
-    Maximum of 2000 words

Cover page:

Include a cover page with the following: NAME, AGE,  DATE OF BIRTH, GRADE OR YEAR OF STUDY, NAME OF SECONDARY SCHOOL/UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE, METHOD OF PAYMENT {PayPal (include name of credit card holder) or cheque}

Registration:

The registration fee is $10 per person. You may pay using one of the following two methods:
1)    Paypal

==>    change country to Canada, fill in donation amount to $10 and click donate
==>    enter information*
*If the name of the credit card holder is different from the name of the essay applicant please include name of credit card holder used for PayPal on your cover page.
2)    Cheque*
$10 cheque payable to IMHO Canada and mailed to:

Plagiarism: Both cheating and plagiarism are prohibited.  Plagiarism is the presentation of another person’s ideas, words, or work as one’s own.  If an essay is found to be plagiarised it will be removed from the competition.

All proceeds will go towards helping underprivileged medical students in Sri Lanka.
