"Playground Project" SupportersIMHO Canada would like to thank the following young people and their families for supporting the "Playground Project" campaign and helping to provide play areas for underprivileged children in Sri Lanka to enjoy. ABI SIVAKUMARThrough her hard work, 10-year old Abi Siavkumar from Markham raised $350 for establishing a playground in Sri Lanka. She had this to say about her experience getting involved with this effort: "My name is Abi Sivakumar I am ten years old, in grade five and I am from Markham, Ontario. I wanted to get involved in the IMHO playground project for many different reasons. I got involved because my parents told me from a young age about the civil war in Sri Lanka, and when I heard about all the effected people both children and adults in Sri Lanka I knew I had to do something to help out! I was also aware that the school Tharmapuram Maha Vidyalayam was damaged during the war. When I heard about this sad story, I right away thought about the kids there and how much they must be suffering. I knew I had to take action and help the children out as fast as possible. When I heard about IMHO’s play ground project for the kids in Tharmapuram Maha Vidyalayam, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to bring back smiles to the children. Another reason I wanted to help out for this specific project is, as a ten year old kid I really enjoy playing in the playground at school and I think that the other kids in Kilinochi will enjoy it too. Medical care and education are very important topics as well but I think kids should have a place to have fun too. The kids went through a lot during the civil war, so I think that with the playground there, they can have a place to just relax and release their stress, and most of all they will have fun! When I grow up, I really want to become a doctor, so I can help the injured people in Sri Lanka as well as all over the world. For the playground, I collected $175 and my parents said they will double up the money, because it was for a very good cause. So in the end, I actually ended up collecting $350. I think that the kids will really like the playground, and I think they will have lots of fun. I am so happy I could be a part of this project and I know that the kids will have a great time in their new playground!"
